Brugada-like electrocardiographic changes induced by hypokalemia.

چکیده
Since its description in 1992, Brugada Syndrome has become the second cause of death among young adults in some countries1. The Brugada syndrome is an autosomal dominant disease with incomplete penetrance, which may cause syncope and sudden cardiac death in young individuals with a normal heart. It is characterized by an electrocardiographic (ECG) pattern of complete or incomplete right bundle branch block (RBBB) and ST-segment elevation in leads V1-V3. The characteristic ECG findings are seen in some patients not affected by the syndrome2. Several nongenetic factors have been mentioned in the literature as possible inductors of the Brugada ECG pattern3. It may be induced in some patients during febrile states, electrolytes abnormalities, cocaine use and drugs that have a sodium channel-blocking effect, such as antiarrhythmics, anesthetics, and tricyclic antidepressants, among others4. We describe a case of a 21-year-old man who presented with severe hypokalemia and dynamic electrocardiographic changes compatible with Brugada pattern5.

Brugada syndrome with aborted sudden cardiac death related to liquorice-induced hypokalemia.
OBJECTIVE It was the aim of this study to report an aborted cardiac arrest due to ventricular fibrillation and electrocardiographic changes consistent with Brugada syndrome due to liquorice-induced hypokalemia. CLINICAL PRESENTATION AND INTERVENTION Ventricular fibrillation was witnessed in a 50-year-old woman who was admitted to our emergency department with a history of liquorice ingestion,...
متن کاملBrugada-like electrocardiographic changes induced by fever.
As "time is myocardium" in the settings of acute myocardial infarction, it is important to make the diagnosis as quickly as possible, and a high clinical suspicion is needed to avoid missing the diagnosis, resulting in unwarranted interventions. The electrocardiogram is a crucial tool in the identification of acute chest pain, enabling a detailed analysis of patterns of ST-segment elevation. We...
متن کاملBrugada-type Electrocardiographic Pattern Induced by Fever
ST-segment elevation in Brugada syndrome is caused by a shift in the ionic current balance and the creation of a voltage gradient between the epicardium and the endocardium. This ionic mechanism have been shown to be temperature dependent. We describe a 33-year-old man who presented with fever with the dynamic electrocardiographic changes similar to the Brugada syndrome. These electrocardiograp...

References DOI: 10.5935/abc.20130249 Dear Editor, We read with great interest the case report by Gazzoni et al1 regarding a Brugada ECG pattern induced by hypokalemia. This paper is important because it contributes to the growing body of literature describing Brugada Phenocopies (BrP)2-5. Br...
متن کاملType 1 Brugada pattern electrocardiogram induced by hypokalemia
Coved-type ST-segment elevation in the right precordial leads are the characteristics of Brugada syndrome, an inherited arrhythmogenic ion channel disease, which could lead to ventricular arrhythmia and sudden death. Hypokalemia alone may induce Type 1 Brugada pattern electrocardiogram (EKG), and the association has rarely been reported. We describe a patient with hypokalemia 2.9 mmol/L and the...
